Lime Crime Love Story

As some of you may know, I LOVE LIME CRIME!!!!!

Oh sorry, i got excited. Anywhosers. I felt since i loved Lime Crime so much, that i should do a blog about them, and have been reminding myself to do one ever since i purchased my first Lime Crime products. As always, life got in the way. I was working for disneyland and had no time to sleep or breathe, let alone play with makeup. So here i am, sever purchases later, to show you everything i have collected so far, and how i feel about their products.

The first time receiving a package from Lime Crime, was like something sent from the gods. Now this picture is not my picture, because of course my computer likes to eat my pictures -_-, but still. This is what it comes in. I believe they've even updated their boxes since i received mine, i think its purple and white with a quote by Mrs. Doe Deere herself. Seriously, Purple and green, IN THE SAME BOX. i think they know me so well.

I do have to admit, the first order i got, one of my eyeshadows was spilled everywhere, but that is what is so great about them! I emailed they're customer service representative, and not only did they send me a new eyeshadow of the color that spilled, but they let me keep the original, AND gave me a discount code, for the next time i ordered something. What other company do you know that goes to those lengths just to make sure their customers are happy with what they receive.

(My collection of Lime Crime. I dream of owning the whole collection one day.)

One of the main reasons i love this company so much, aside from the amazing colors they have, is their employees. Not only are their customer service reps nice (one being Doe's husband Mark), but everyone else on the team is just so sweet and courteous to the people who are keeping them employed. I've had experiences with them via internet, but my dreams came true when i met Erica, Doe, and Mark at the IMATS in Pasadena. They were selling the products 40% off (!!!!!!!) and were there to assist you and help you decide what colors would look best, or what you just HAVE to have in your collection. Of course i already had my mind sent on the colors i wanted so most of our conversation was just about how to get into the industry and our love for makeup. i even got a picture with Mrs. Deere. She was dressed so beautifully, and spoke so softly. I just wanted to squeeze her, she was that adorable.

(Isn't her dress amazing?! Her husband Mark and Erica in the background)
(They took this picture after signing the poster for me, this is my boyfriend and i)

Now that i have blabbed on and on about how much i love the people and the customer service i guess it would be smart of me to explain the products.

Lime Crime is one of those dime a dozen companies that has exactly what you have been searching for your entire life. Finally it shows up right under your nose, and is actually worth your time. Their eyeshadows come in so many different vibrant colors. Colors named after things in your childhood that make you happy (Mint To Be), or names taken straight out of movies (Mischief Managed!), or even named after the founder herself (Airborne Unicorn). They just make you want to jump for joy and spread the glee to everyone, which i have. Especially now that they have an affiliate program, i can help spread the glee, and possibly help to make money for my career in makeup while i'm at it. Affiliates are the people who spread the word about the company and the promotions going on, and in return get a 15% discount on every purchase, and can make money with every click on their site. It's such a smart idea to those that feel as passionate as i do about them.

I'm a Snake, ssSSssSSs.

This video kills me.

Anyways, haha. Yes. a snake skin tutorial. For some reason i've had a lot of people freak out and think this is the coolest idea on the planet, and that it looks so intricate, but in reality, it's quite simple.
What you'll need:
  1. Basic face makeup (i.e Foundation, Powder, Mascara, Blush) (if the face is where you're putting it)
  2. Some sort of cream eye shadow, or base (preferably in white, or iridescent colors. you can use any base color but the eye shadow shows up better on light bases compared to dark bases)
  3. Eye shadows! i used blues, greens, browns, grays of the ones on my hand, and blues, purples, pinks, and greens in the ones on my face, just to try different colors.
  4. And FISHNETSSS :)
This makeup, seriously, is so easy once you know how.

First, If you're planning on putting the design on your face, you should conceal, apply foundation, and powder your face. Also, figure out where you want to put the design. Mine went above, on top of my eyebrow and down my cheek. I did the opposite cheek bone as well, but it doesn't look the greatest. You should also do your eyeshadow to match the colors, or tie some of them in. Possibly blend a couple of the colors together.

If you're planning on putting it somewhere else, for a costume or something you just start on step two :)

Second, You're going to put the cream base or cream shadow on the place where the print is going (make sure its sticky). You can use your finger, or you can use a sponge. I used a sponge, but because thats what i prefer. Here are two examples on on a white background and another on a red, black and iridescent green background. I wanted to see what looked best with different colors.

Third, you're going to put the fishnet on the spot you put the base on. now, if you're going to put it on your face, putting fishnet over your head and on top of your eye is a little awkward, but it wont be there long. Just make sure you can see for one, and for two, MAKE SURE ITS TIGHT. Meaning it cant slide around. If it slides around then the lines wont be clear. When putting it somewhere else it may be easier cause its not over your eye, but again make it tight.

Fourth, you're going to take the eyeshadows you chose. You can put them on with a sponge, the eye shadow applicators that come with them, a cotton ball, or a brush (one that isn't as important). I believe i used the eyeshadow applicator because it was the strongest thing, and held the most product. Make sure you dab and don't brush because you would move the fishnet and you would make a mess with the shadows. use many colors dark and light to get depth, it pops better that way.

Fifth, if you are putting it on your face, add blush where there isn't any design, lipstick to tie in you one the more random colors, mascara and lashes.

I feel like this style would work best for some sort of costume party, or even some sort of fashion show, because its edgy, but you can made it girly with the colors, glitter and even jewels if you wanted. Just have fun!

Masquerade, Paper Faces on Parade.

Yes, i did just quote Phantom of the Opera. Anyways, this was one of two ideas for my final for my makeup class. I did the mask with beauty makeup, and used the sequins on the side of my face as the "beads". When getting my picture taken for the final i was told i was a piece of art, and that i should wear this every day, because it was so creative. So thats the story, and i'm stickin' to it!

This is actually a really simple thing to do, and it is a great alternative to holding the mask, or having to wear the mask that isn't big enough for your eyes to see through. We all know i get dizzy if i can't see. and some people like to have masquerade parties where there is a little too much to drink, and you lose your mask, so this fixes it all.
What you'll need:
  1. Face paint. (If you want this exact look, black. if you want something else you can use that color. I feel black just comes off more neutral to the outfit.)
  2. A black setting powder. (I used a black eye shadow with a red shimmer to tie in the red a little more.)
  3. Jewels for around the edge. (Optional, but recommended)
  4. Sequins, in many colors. (Optional, but recommended)
  5. Foundation, Powder, Eye shadows, Blush, Lipstick, Eye liner in white, Eye Lashes, Glue, and a cheap mask to trace (optional, if you can draw nice lines your fine), and Brushes.
First, i put my foundation on. Make sure it is smooth and you extend past your jaw, because you don't want those terrible lines. They look bad. You can put it on your whole face, except for where the mask is going to be, because you're going to paint over that any way.

Second, (i personally) put the powder on my face. If you'd like you can wait until after you paint and set your face, incase of fall out. I put the powder on next to make my face soft looking, and so that my skin is prepped, plus wit powder on, if you have fall out you can just use the powder brush to clean it off.

Third, i put the mask on and traced the shape i want on my face with the white eye liner, and then took it off and corrected it to be exactly what i want. you also need to draw out the shape around the eyes. this time i did the normal round, semi-almond shape, but another time i did a more cat eyed shape.

Fourth, I did the eye shadow. Because you have the eye shape drawn out, you know how far to go, or not go. For the black and red i did a semi natural eyelid. I used an eyeshadow primer first. I recommend Lime Crimes Candy Eyed Eyeshadow Helper Eyelid Primer. It worked really well with the second mask i did with light and dark purples. Either way, natural or colorful, You put the primer on, then put the lighter color on the whole eyelid. if it is a bring color, make sure you pat it on the eyelid instead of brushing it on, you'll get less fall out. Next you would put the darkest color in the crease of your eye and rock it back and fourth to blend it out. It looks best if you make a triangle or corner like here.

After doing the eyeshadow you should put a highlight color on the inner eye. make sure it isn't white because it makes you look washed out. Try to use light shimmery golds. Next use the color from the crease on a small "brow" brush to line under the bottom lash line. I like to wet it before lining it, but you can use it dry. Wet just make it last longer, and brighter. You may also use that same color, wet this time, as the eye liner for the top lashes. Don't wing it out too far because the mask will be painted on after. Lastly, take the white eyeliner and line the bottom waterline with it, and a black or dark color to line the top waterline. The top waterline is an optional look, just incase you miss a spot with mascara. Add a small amount of mascara.

Fifth, Take the black (or other color) face paint and paint around the eyes, on top of the brows and nose. Use a paint brush for this so you don't mess up your makeup brushes. Make sure the lines are nice and clean, and also make sure they are straight. A crooked mask looks really awkward. Keep the brush damp and with paint. Paint small areas with it, then dab the setting powder on top. if it is a translucent, do not use too much so the color doesn't turn lighter. I used a black MAC eyeshadow with a red shimmer in the red and black one and a Lime Crime black eyeshadow "Enchant" with a teal/green shimmer to set the green one. Make sure to dab and not brush because you will smear the paint, mess up your brushes and you will get fallout. Once set, let dry for a couple minutes.

Sixth, ADD JEWELS! in any pattern or style you'd like. You can use eyelash glue, i used tacky glue, for fabric. it is water based so it washes off well.

Seventh, Add blush, in your favorite shade for the look. make sure not to go too wild, since you have a giant block of paint already covering half you face :)

Eighth, Add the sequins if you wish with the same glue. I did the sequins to represent the Mardi Gras beads, to get the whole feel, and i felt the shape also helped to be more artistic and creative, not some itchy plastic beads around your neck.

Ninth, Your favorite shade of lipstick, again, not too wild. Maybe even toned down to a matte finish by adding a translucent powder to the lips.

Tenth, and last. Dust off any fall out. Add a bit of concealer around the lips to clean up the lipstick lines as much as possible and BAM! (oh, i'm not emeril)

So there you have it, a very long, drawn out, but super fun masquerade mask tutorial for whatever occasion you like.
